hello there!

just a quick update for right now.

the summer came and went in what felt like the blink of an eye. i have just recently started graduate school and will be putting folding the remaining 300 or so cranes on hold for the time being. once i have started folding again i'll pop in here to let you know. (as always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions)

the other piece of information that i wanted to share with all of you is that: i recycle. i receive a lot of mail and i hold on to the reusable mailers/envelopes/etc until i have a use for them. a few months ago when i was attempting to organize the reusables, i dumped some on my bed and took the picture that you see here.

thanks for all the continued interest, support and encouragement!

Liz

Hello there!

I felt it was time for an update on the project as it's been about a month since the last. First of all, thank you so much for all of your encouragement; it continues to be inspirational and a source of energy that helps to keep the paper crane project going.

Speaking of inspiration, the Polaroids above feature Miranda July's wonderful book of short stories, No One Belongs Here More Than You. Ms. July inspires me to no end with her plethora of projects, such as Learning To Love You More. I find her work very encouraging especially at those times when I'm not sure how this project will end, or if it will ever end!

After the last update, I received emails from people wondering where their cranes were, or if they would still be receiving cranes. Just to clarify, if you received an email from me (in response to your request for a crane) confirming that you would be receiving a crane; you are still receiving a crane. Most likely you have not received your crane yet as I grossly underestimated the amount of time that this project would take. Although I may have told you in response to your crane request that your crane would ship out within a week or two, it didn't.

That being said, once I have sent out all 1000 cranes, I will then set up two deadlines:

-Deadline #1: If you have not received your crane by this date, please email me to let me know.

-Deadline #2: The date by which you should have sent your crane picture to me.

Not yet at 1000, I have something like 400 (give or take) cranes left to go.

When you're ready to send your crane picture in, PLEASE make sure your name is somewhere on the picture. Please keep in mind that although I think sending your crane picture to me via Flickr's 'print' option is a great way to do it, unless your name is in the title of the picture I'll have no way of knowing who has sent me the print.

What else? Oh yes, the crane's appearance! I've seen many a crane with folded wings or wings that stick straight up. The best way to 'open' your crane is to position your fingers on the wings, at the point where they connect to the body, and pull down until the crane inflates itself. Don't be afraid to rip or break your crane, because if you pull slowly enough you'll be able to feel if it starts to rip. Of course, if it doesn't inflate completely, you can always turn it over and blow into its hole.

To those of you who haven't yet received your crane or your crane arrived months late, I really appreciate your patience.

Liz

Today's the day...

The paper crane project finally has a home to call its own! I'm very thankful to expressions for sponsoring the site as well as Matt, Jördis and Wes who each put in a lot of time making everything look great and work properly.

So here we are, whether you're a participant of the project or someone who's wondering 'What on earth is the paper crane project?' I hope you'll enjoy what you see here. If you're looking for a little background on how the paper crane project came to be, or some frequently asked questions, check out the about page. To see the ever-growing list of participants (which in this capacity means those people from whom i've received a crane picture) you'll want to go to the contributors page.

When there is an update or some information to share about the paper crane project I'll be posting a new entry on this blog, however I'll probably still send out a mass email to participants as well as post updates in the flickr group just to make sure no one misses anything.

Well, I think that's about it for now. I'm not sure where I'll put the email address, most likely on the about page, but if anyone has a question or something to say please feel free to send an email to thepapercraneproject@gmail.com (just ignore the automated response you'll receive after sending your email, I'll send you a real email too).

Thanks so much for coming by and checking out the paper crane project's new home!

Liz
